Weaving Bali

Participants will discover the ancestral know-how of Sidemen women at a hand-weaving cooperative. In Bali, the fabrics, locally known as « Ikats » are much more than simple clothes, and reflect the historical and religious traditions, playing an important role in everyday life. In here, we will explain the different techniques of weaving the « Endeks » and « Songkets », while observing the process.

We use the farmer path to admire the famous landscapes and paddy fields of Sidemen. Participants learn about the Subak system and plantations and see how the farmers work in the fields.

This walk is the opportunity to understand the countryside way of life and its social and environmental organization.
